#AceScotsmanNews – Dec.22: Stuart Earley said it was unfair to compare his pay with that of the Prime Minister, who earns £142,000 or Nicola Sturgeon, who’s on £135,000.
Defensive: Stuart Earley
THE boss of the Scottish SPCA has emailed staff to defend his £216,000-a-year pay packet – pointing out that he doesn’t get the same perks as David Cameron .
Stuart Earley, 58, said it was unfair to compare his pay with that of the Prime Minister, who earns £142,000, or Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon , who’s on £135,000.
In a leaked email to staff, he says: “The media is always happy to point out that someone’s salary is greater than the Prime Minister’s.
“But it tends to forget all the other perks that come with being Prime Minister such as a house in the middle of London, a country pile in Buckinghamshire and the various parliamentary allowances and chauffeur-driven cars.”
Earley’s deal – which included his bonus on top of his basic wage for 2014 – made him one of the UK’s highest-paid charity chiefs.
