About 16 people were being treated for breathing difficulties following a chemical leak in St Andrews, Fife in Scotland, the BBC reported.
The leak at East Sands Leisure Centre, which involved the chemical sodium hypochlorite, is considered a “major incident.” The fire service used three breathing apparatus teams to isolate the power in the plant room. Everyone in the building has been accounted for.
There were 13 fire engines and 55 firefighters on the scene. Sodium hypochlorite is commonly used as a disinfectant or bleaching agent.
